It's so hard to watch the news nowadays...

I confess, I probably don't watch the news as often as I should.
But today, I saw two particularly heart-wrenching stories, and it's just gotten to the point where I really feel I need to say something...

People disgust me!

I don't understand! I can't fathom any thoughts that would explain why someone would put their children in cages and starve them, or why little children are abducted and brutally murdered for no reason whatsoever!? These are human lives we're talking about. A real, human life; the life of a person that could have been your neighbor, or maybe just someone who was going to grow up and live. No one deserves to have these things taken away from them, especially when they're so innocent. You only have one life on earth, so what right does someone else have to take it away from you? These aubductees, they would have had dreams and aspirations much like many others of us. We humans think we're so advanced, but really, we're just animals underneath it all. We build up this society for ourselves, we create, we give an order to the world. Yet, we are plagued by such unspeakable evils? We hate, we always want more? Seriously, people, what is the human race coming to? We are entertained by movies like "Saw", which obviously did well enough for a "triquel". I don't understand how you can find massive amounts of violence genuinely entertaining. Honestly. But what is happening to the people who watch these movies and think nothing of it? You know what people have to say? "It's just a movie." But it's frightening to me that you can make such an observation, because it seems as though you have trained yourself to be immuninized to such things! So you feel nothing towards genocide? Has your sensitivity to human life become numb thanks to the world around you?

It just sickens me so much how people are. How little life is respected, and how messed up somethings are. The worst part is, I want to do something about it! I want to fix it, I want to help someone, but I don't really know if there's anything I can do.

It just seems like... things that were so obscene were always pushed away, but little by little society embraced it, and it's almost like good morals are switching roles with the taboo. There is no trust in the world. Everything is exploited. Everything.

I mean, I was just talking about this with a few people recently, how the "predictions" made in Brave New World (Aldous Huxley) and 1984 (George Orwell) reflect today's society, but it's getting to the point where I can believe it. We are in an age of easy fixes, the lack of morality, similar to the worlds reflected in these novels. ("You don't like something? You want something Fix it, get it, it's easy. You don't have to be unhappy for long" is just the message that I feel radiating from culture today.) (More so Brave New World, but there is something to be said about the violence in today's world and the media of 1984... and the lack of creative thought on top of that.)...

*sigh* Okay, just a rant, I'll be surprised if you read all of it because I just sort of started rambling but... What can we do about this?

I just have to say somethign about the SAW comment.

I don't love SAW because it's violent, I LOVE and I mean LOVE SAW because the plot. Honestly who thinks of that stuff, all the twists and turns are brilliant. It is written so like 'make you think' but your wrong. and it has little forshadowing that you never really catch and then when it pops back up you are like OH MY GOD.

SAW is like one of my favorite movies it is brilliant, but i do get where you come from.

All the rest... It's life we don't understand it and we all wish we could fix it. I agree full-hearted-ly.

Ah, very good point, Caja.

It was wrong of me to attack it and not include that, and I haven't even seen the movie myself, which is even worse. ._.

I appologize for that.

I think that came from a conversation I had with a friend where I was asking him just how gruesome it was, and I was going on a rant about violence (some of which is written in the post) but I do know that a lot of people really like the story.

Please excuse me for that one... ^_^;;
