Happy Birthday Mr. Sondheim and Mr. Webber...

Because a certain music teacher brought this to mine and other's attention today:
It's Stephen Sondheim's birthday today. (He's a pretty famous composer of Broadway musicals, among other things, I'm sure. He wrote for West Side Story, Sunday in the Park with George, and Gypsy, among many others. However, his rival, Andrew Lloyd Webber, who is also a composer, was also born on this day years later. He is well known for The Phantom of the Opera and Jesus Christ Superstar...

So, I was just wondering, does anyone have a preference over either one? I think I like Sondheim a little better; his musicals a little more serious and I do think he is a clever writer, but I can't deny how beautiful the music is in Phantom of the Opera so...

I know there's a bunch of you theater-enthusiasts out there, so tell me what you think. :D

I really like Andrew Lloyd Webber. I must admit that I'm addicted to The Phantom still... but then again, I haven't seen/heard much of Sondheim's works... only a few songs from West Side Story So yeah, those are my thoughts.

Sondheim... love Sondheim. I appreciate his work so much, it's just brilliant. But that doesn't take away from Andrew Lloyd Webber.. he's a complete.. COMPLETE different kind of composer! They have two different audiences, so in a sense they are both amazing at what they do.
