TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- A man died after he fell asleep on railroad tracks and was hit by a train in Tallahassee.
Police haven't identified the 54-year-old man but believe he might be a transient.
The man was hit Friday night and died several hours later at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital. He had been asleep in a fetal position when he was hit.
Police said no one is facing any charges.
Police Lt. Glenn Sapp said several people have been hit by trains recently.
"We need to get the word out to people: Don't sleep on the train tracks," Sapp said.
A conductor initially thought the man was a trash bag or a suitcase in the middle of the tracks.
But as the train approached, the conductor realized it a was person, put on the brakes and sounded the whistle and alarm.
Police say the slow-moving train ran over the man, stopping fewer than 100 yards from the crash scene.
